REP. KATKO ANNOUNCES USPS CHANGE IN DOOR MAIL DELIVERY FOR GEDDES NEIGHBORHOOD, ACHIEVING FULL DOOR DELIVERY FOR THE TOWN OF GEDDES
SYRACUSE, NEW YORK — Today, Congressman John Katko (NY-24) announced that, following his advocacy, the United States Postal Service (USPS) will install individual resident mailboxes along Helmi Drive in the Town of Geddes. These mailboxes will replace the Centralized Box Unit that currently receives all deliveries for the 27 residential addresses on Helmi Drive.

Earlier this year, Rep. Katko was contacted by Town of Geddes Councilor Ed Weber and Town of Geddes Highway Supervisor Paul Trovato, following complaints that the Centralized Box Unit had been creating an inconvenience for residents on Helmi Drive. The Centralized Box Unit made collecting mail difficult and potentially dangerous in the winter months, requiring Helmi Drive residents, including several senior citizens, to travel unnecessarily far to retrieve parcels. Prior to this change, Helmi Drive was the only street in Geddes featuring a Centralized Box Unit. All other addresses in Geddes have individual mailboxes.

Following this meeting, Rep. Katko acted as a liaison between the Town of Geddes and the USPS, sharing the concerns of Helmi Drive residents and outlining the need for door delivery. Since coming to Congress, Rep. Katko has advocated for the USPS to deliver all mail directly to the doors of residential addresses -- cosponsoring legislation in each of his terms directing the USPS to uphold this practice.

"My office in Syracuse works to cut through red tape when individuals in our community are frustrated in dealings with federal agencies. I was proud to collaborate with Town of Geddes Councilor Ed Weber to ensure the concerns of Geddes residents were heard by the USPS," said Congressman Katko. "With this change, senior citizens and residents in the Town of Geddes will no longer face confusion or inconvenience in receiving their mail."

Town of Geddes Councilor Ed Weber said, "Working together does make a difference for solving problems no matter what level of government we represent.”
