| Harriet Tubman Home in Auburn Officially Designated a National Historic Park |
I was thrilled to attend the signing ceremony this week to officially establish Harriet Tubman’s home in Auburn as a national park. This has been a priority item since my first day in office. Harriet Tubman was a courageous leader - and her ideals helped usher in a new way of thinking in America.
This designation is an overdue and touching tribute to a wonderful, fearless American. It is my hope that the national park designation will bolster our local tourism-based economy and serve as a solemn reminder of the bold and fearless life that Harriet Tubman led in her fierce pursuit for racial and social justice equality for all.

One of the highlights of the ceremony was meeting Judith Bryant, a descendant of Harriet Tubman who still lives in Auburn today!

Legislative Update: Fighting for Fort Ontario & Safe Haven |
Friends, as many of you know, I’ve worked alongside local advocates, leaders and community members in Oswego County for the past two years to put Fort Ontario and Safe Haven in Oswego on the path towards becoming a national park. I’m proud to announce that last week, on the first day of the 115th Congress, I reintroduced the Fort Ontario Study Act. This bipartisan legislation will help preserve this site, encourage tourism, bolster our local economy, and protect the rich history of Oswego County. I’m proud to once again introduce this measure and am determined to make it law.
New York State Department of Transportation to Study Remaining I-81 Options |
One of the most pressing issues facing our district is the upcoming rebuild of Interstate 81 through Syracuse. This project will impact our regional transportation infrastructure for generations to come, and it is critical that all options are carefully studied and that input is considered from all factions of our community. I am pleased with this week's announcement that studies will be conducted on all viable options. By doing so, we are one step closer to a regional consensus for the final design. I look forward to reviewing the final study, and will continue to engage in a public discourse on the future of Interstate 81 as we determine which option is best for all of Central New York.

| On the Floor: Upholding Pledge to Reform Healthcare |
I have always been clear on my stance towards Obamacare: this law is deeply flawed. I've also been clear on the way in which we must go about reforming this flawed law: before it is repealed, a viable plan must be ready to replace it. Click the video below to see my explanation of today's vote in the House.

Katko says 2nd term will be different in many ways
In his second term, Katko hopes to continue working on homeland security issues and to find funding for infrastructure repair -- especially for the revamping of Interstate 81 through downtown Syracuse. The congressman says another goal is restructuring the tax code in order to help bring jobs to central New York, which he believes will help relieve the massive poverty in Syracuse.
